Everything you need to know about HawkSeale products, application, shipping, and ordering.
Asphalt millings are recycled material from old roads and parking lots. When existing pavement is resurfaced, the top layer is ground up and removed. These millings can be reused as a base material for driveways, roads, and parking lots at a fraction of the cost of new hot mix asphalt.
A properly applied HawkSeale treatment lasts for years. The first HawkSeale-treated millings roads are now over 25 years old in 2026. The product penetrates deep into the millings and permanently restores the asphalt binder. High-traffic areas or harsh climates may benefit from a maintenance coat every few years.
Yes. HawkSeale is DIY-friendly. The goal is to saturate the millings with approximately 1 gallon of HS Solution per square yard, then compact (or re-compact) the millings.
HS Solution is applied directly onto the millings to saturate them and rejuvenate the bitumen, then the millings are compacted right after application.
Small areas: a sprinkle can to saturate, then a plate compactor.
Mid-size projects (driveways): a low-cost spray setup — a 12-volt RV pump with auto-shutoff and a wand from your local hardware store, or a 4′ or 6′ boom sprayer (use 2-gpm 80-20 or similar spray tips).
Large projects (roads, parking lots): a truck or trailer-mounted boom setup with a water trash pump or diaphragm pump (use 5-gpm 80-50 spray tips).
You will also need a plate compactor for smaller projects, or a 4′ ride-on roller for larger projects.
Note: Pump-up and back-pack sprayers do not deliver enough volume to saturate the millings efficiently. Don’t use them.
We have plans for building sprayer setups in our Resources section, and we sell 4′ and 6′ boom kits with pumps if you’d rather buy than build. See our Sprayer & Tool Guide in the Resources section.
HawkSeale concentrate mixes 1 part product to 9 parts water. Each gallon of concentrate makes 10 gallons of HS Solution, which covers approximately:
Note: Saturating millings to a depth of 2–3 inches typically requires 1 gallon of mixed HS Solution per square yard, applied in 3 coats.
Apply HS Solution to the point of puddling, then move along. The first coat will absorb about ½ gallon per square yard. Once absorbed, apply the next coat. Each successive coat takes less solution to puddle, totaling roughly 1 gallon per sq/yd.
